Cracking the Code: Contact Lens Optics

About the Presenters

Dr. Sicks graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in 2006 with a BA in Biology. She received her OD from the Illinois College of Optometry in 2010 and went on to complete a residency in Cornea and Contact Lenses at Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry. Currently, Dr. Sicks serves as an attending optometrist for third- and fourth-year interns in the ICO Cornea and Contact Lens Center for Clinical Excellence, fitting specialty contact lenses and managing dry eye and anterior segment disease. She is also involved in the didactic training of students in specialty contact lenses and ophthalmic surgical procedures including injections, minor surgical procedures, and anterior segment laser therapy. She has delivered continuing education and presented research and posters at both local and national optometry meetings and worked in private OD and OD/MD settings. Dr. Sicks has received the International Association of Contact Lens Educators Educator of the Year Award and the AOA-CLCS Rodger Kame Award. She is a member of the American Academy of Optometry Foundation Board and serves as Vice Chair of the American Academy of Optometry Leadership Committee. She also serves on the Communications Committee for the Association of Optometric Contact Lens Educators and is a Gallup-certified Strengths Coach.

Dr. Lam received her Bachelor of Science in Cell Biology and Genetics and a Master of Science in Visual Neuroscience from the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, BC Canada). She received her degree in Optometry from the Southern California College of Optometry and proceeded to complete her residency training in Cornea and Contact Lenses at the University of Houston, College of Optometry. Dr. Lam is a full-time faculty member with didactic, laboratory and clinical teaching responsibilities in the Cornea and Contact Lens Service at Marshall B. Ketchum University. She is also the coordinator of the cornea and contact lens residency. Her clinical interests are in keratoconus, orthokeratology, post-surgical corneas and ocular prosthetics. She is vice-chair of the Association of Optometric Contact Lens Educators and a member of the American Academy of Optometry and American Optometric Association. She is a member of the Contact Lens Assessment in Youth (CLAY) Study Group which investigates contact lens compliance in young contact lens wearers.
