About the Presenters

Jeffrey Sonsino, OD, FAAO, is a partner in a high-end specialty contact lens and anterior segment practice in Nashville, Tennessee.  For over 11 years, he was faculty at Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Eye Institute.  He is a Diplomate in the Cornea and Contact Lens Section of the American Academy of Optometry (AAO), past-chairman of the Contact Lens and Cornea Section of the American Optometric Association (AOA), founding emeritus board member of the Healthcare Alliance for Patient Safety, a fellow of the Scleral Lens Education Society, past-president of the Middle Tennessee Optometric Association, the 2017 Gas Permeable Lens Institute (GPLI) practitioner of the year, the 2017 AOA’s Advocate of the Year, the 2018 Tennessee Optometric Association’s Optometrist of the Year, was elected to the National Academies of Practice in 2022, received a President’s award from the AOA in 2023 for outstanding service to the profession, and in 2024 was honored with the AOA’s Luminary Award for distinguished practice. Most recently, he has been appointed to the AOA’s Federal Relations and Advocacy Action Committee. He also founded Eyeris, a contact lens company founded to nurture the doctor-patient relationship for independent optometrists.

Mile Brujic, OD, FAAO is a 2002 graduate of the New England College of Optometry.  He is a partner of Premier Vision Group, a successful two location optometric practice in Northwest Ohio.  He practices full scope optometry with an emphasis on ocular disease management of the anterior segment and specialty contact lenses.  He is active at all levels of organized optometry.  Dr. Brujic is on the editorial board for a number of optometric publications.  He has published over 500 articles and has given over 2300 lectures, both nationally and internationally on contemporary topics in eye care.

About the Presenter

Dr. Karen Carrasquillo is Vice President of Clinical and Professional Affairs at BostonSight. In addition, she is an adjunct clinical professor at the New England College of Optometry, an adjunct clinical professor at the school of optometry, MCPHS University, Advisory Board member for the GPLI, and Global Ambassador of the BCLA. She is the founder and Program Chair of FitAcademy, an educational retreat for cornea and contact lens residents, and is also a planning committee member for the International Congress of Scleral Contacts Meeting and Global Ophthalmic Women meeting. She is an international key opinion leader and speaker, also the author of numerous publications on the therapeutic use of scleral lenses and prosthetic replacement of the eye surface system and is also the author of several patents. Prior to completing her doctorate degree in Optometry and her residency in Cornea and Contact Lenses, she completed a PhD in Chemistry at the University of Puerto Rico and a postdoctoral fellowship in ophthalmological research from the Massachusetts Eye and Ear, Harvard Medical School, in Boston, MA.
