Newman gp TORIC GUIDE

Empirical Design GP Toric Calculator

This modification of the Mandell-Moore Guide was developed by Clarke Newman, OD, FAAO, and he has graciously provided it to the GP Lens Institute as an empirical design GP toric calculator to complement both Mandell-Moore and the GPLI Toric and Spherical Lens Calculator.

In addition to using the bottom section to determine base curve radii and powers of a bitoric lens, it is also beneficial in calculation of the other lens design parameters, including overall diameter (O.A.D.), posterior optical zone (P.O.Z.), anterior optical zone (A.O.Z.), secondary curve radius and width (2° R/W), intermediate curve radius and width (3° R/W), and peripheral curve radius and width (4° R/W).

Dr. Clarke Newman graduated from the University of Houston College of Optometry and for more than 25 years has practiced optometry at Plaza Vision Center in Dallas, Texas. He is the editor of Texas Optometry and a contributing editor to Contact Lens Spectrum.

He is a past president of both the Dallas County Optometric Society and the Texas Optometric Association (TOA), and has been awarded both the “Young Optometrist of the Year” and the “Optometrist of the Year” by the TOA. He is currently a diplomate and program chair of the American Academy of Optometry Section on Cornea, Contact Lenses, and Refractive Technologies.
