About the Recipient
Dr. Messer received her doctor of optometry degree from Southern California College of Optometry, and subsequently went on to specialize in Cornea and Specialty Contact Lenses by completing a one-year residency. She is highly trained in fitting specialty contact lenses for keratoconus, post-surgical corneas, and other corneal diseases, as well as multifocal and orthokeratology contact lenses. Dr. Messer has authored many articles for various publications and enjoys teaching other doctors complex contact lens fitting techniques and surgical co-management topics in classroom and clinical settings. Dr. Messer is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and Scleral Lens Education Society. She serves on the education committee for the North Dakota Optometric Association and is the advisor to the optometric residency program at Vance Thompson Vision in West Fargo, ND. At Vance Thompson Vision, she focuses on the management of cataract, glaucoma, cornea, and refractive surgery. Additionally, she also routinely manages patients with keratoconus and those in need of post-surgical cornea care. When her cornea patients need it, Dr. Messer uses corneal and scleral gas permeable lenses, as well as custom soft lens designs. She is certified to fit EyePrintPRO scleral lenses for complex vision and ocular surface needs. She also has a special interest in myopia control and orthokeratology contact lenses. Brooke and her husband, Bryan, stay busy chasing after their two children. She enjoys golfing, fishing, and visiting family in her hometown of Dickinson, ND.
