About the Recipient

Jan Svochak has served as President of the CLMA and as a GPLI Board of Director since the GPLI established the Board. He was the individual who pursued the 501(c)(3) status for the GPLI. He also initiated the GPLI Educator of the Year award and has sponsored the GP Practitioner of the Year award. However, the primary reason he deserves to be the GPLI Distinguished Service Award recipient pertains to his leadership when Valeant Pharmaceuticals dropped out of the CLMA. It was very evident that the GPLI would cease to exist due to lack of funding and it was also entirely possible that the CLMA would be greatly impacted as well. Jan responded every day for the better part of a year to both save the GPLI while working with the labs to resist being sold. What a great example of leadership!
